So we wrote on precedents and angels.
We build a book, we build a road.
Out of nothing , but a saying
On governments and police.
We build a road on good intentions.
We bow down like it's our new God.
Someone once told me if I play in the rain
Then I could come up with a God of my own.
So when a man comes with a difference,
Or a woman with an idea.
We crush it down to nothing.
People's eyes are colder than winter,
But they just need the warm sunlight.
We climb into the sky to find the heavens,
But we forget what's down below.
Truth and justice fall to beauty
And still ugliness fills the world.
I can’t say I hate anybody,
But it gets harder everyday.
So when a man comes with a difference,
Or a woman comes with an idea.
We crush it down to nothing.
But there ain't no room for equality these days
And God forbid you get in my way
Black or white we're gonna end up the same way
Cuz God's gonna judge us all one day
And we're gonna fall
Down...Down...
Down...Down...
If you could pick it up and turn it over
You could see that it's not for you.
So beat your drum and prepare for war
Cuz the books comin' after you once more.
When there’s red blood bleeding from you
Does it feel like cold blue in your veins?
Do you ever wonder what love could be?
And if you’ll ever be free?
So when a man comes with a difference,
Or a woman comes with an idea.
We crush it down to nothing.
But there ain't no room for equality these days
And God forbid you get in my way
Black or white we're gonna end up the same way
Cuz God's gonna judge us all one day
And we're gonna fall
Down...Down...
Down...Down...
Do you ever wonder what love could be?
And if you’ll ever be free...
