A smile mars my face
As thoughts breeze through the mind
But the joy quickly subsides
And is replaced with a deep emptiness
Which can ne'er seem to be filled
By anything
No matter how wholesome and good-natured
But perhaps such hopeful thoughts will this time last
And carry on unlike the failures of the past
A spark of happiness on the brain
Much like some drug
Is long sought after to replace
After it fades
Perhaps I've found the eternal fix
A fount of joy and inspiration
But then the dreary thoughts of reality come crashing down
Obliterating hopes and dreams in a sea of colorless decay
But that spark of hope does live on,
Perhaps burning a bit brighter upon reflection.
